It’s Vital You Pay Attention To These 5 Basic On-Page SEO Strategies

I notice lots of people running around building backlinks and hoping for miracles to happen. They sit there for hours doing everything imaginable to get as much of them as they possibly can. There is nothing wrong with this as long as you’re taking care of what is on your blog too, but people aren’t. On-page SEO has taken a backseat and the only thing that matters to them is commenting on hundreds of blogs or joining hundreds of forums to add their link in the signature box.

If you don’t start looking at your on-page SEO there is no way in the world you will ever get the results you are looking for. There are some things that don’t matter too much and there are others that do. As long as you’re taking care of the most important things you will be able to sit back and watch your search engine rankings improve. We’re going to discuss what you should be focusing on and you will have to go through your site adding in what you’ve forgotten about.

Your internal links

Google and other search engines will land on one specific page on your site. Now where do they go? Remember that when robots crawl websites they navigate their way through the links and if your internal pages aren’t linked together Google won’t find them in a hurry. You need to start going through each article you have already written so you can find specific information that relates to a different article. Now just highlight a word or sentence and link to the other article.

Title tags

You want your headline and title tags to be two different things in certain cases. Title tags should include the search term you want to rank for because it will give you higher rankings in the search results. Your headline might be the same, but it needs to be written so anyone who sees it on a site like Facebook clicks on it. People aren’t very excited by keyword driven headlines, so you’ll need to sit down and decide whether to make them different or not.

Outbound links

In the past you would never hear anyone talk about linking out to external sources. They were afraid they would lose all of their link juice and it was important their website was a closed book. Then people realized search engines award you for giving your customers what they need. In this case it was a link to relevant content on popular websites that would give them even more information about what they were looking for. Don’t be afraid to link out when you deem it necessary.

Long tail keywords

You probably spend hours looking for amazing keywords at the moment and there is nothing wrong with that, but just remember where your traffic is coming from. If you look at your analytics you will see that long tail keywords drive most of the traffic to your site. Trying to rank for low-hanging fruit also has its benefits because you will move up the search engine rankings much quicker as there is less competition, so start adding them into your articles.

Go easy on your main keyword

A keyword should only be used if it’s going to look good inside the article. Too many people are stuffing them in like their article is a giant turkey. Not only will Google know what you’re trying to do, but it will also repulse the readers of your content. From now on you should only mention the keyword a few times and you will be surprised by the results. Just remember the keyword stuffing ship has sailed and it’s not coming back.
